Friday Update

First I thought I would start by sharing this picture of a quilt that I believe to be made
by my DH's grandmother. It was found among the belongs of a uncle who passed away this pass March. I don't know for sure and no one else seems to know, but from the other quilts
I have seen of hers, this one is her style of quilting. She made the most
of the scraps she had and although they are not perfect or exactly color
coordinated, they were made for use. To keep her and her family warm on some cold nights.
Unfortunately, some of the quilt is in need of repair and I am going to do the best to repair it
for our family.

I have been hiding from my blog lately.....I am thinking I need an overhaul and just not sure where to begin. I call it "Rosinton Cottage" because I live in the little community of Rosinton in Baldwin county, AL. But to tell the true, I haven't done much around and about the cottage lately. Most of my doing has been in the sewing room. So I am posting some pics of what I have been doing lately!
Also I have been a little under the weather, I have RLS (Restless Legs Syndrome) and they have been giving me a lot of pain and sleepless nights. Doctors running test by still have not found
what is going on yet. Go back to doctors this week for more test..OH Boy!!

Here are some pics of Maddie in her "Feliz" from this book. She loves to loved to wear and twirl in her dress.

Also the latest dress I made is her "pumpkin" dress. I wanted to make a fall/Halloween dress without the scary designs. Found this great little pumpkin in Etsy here

Til next time and maybe I will work on that blog restyle....

New Christmas Fabric

Home yesterday from Pensacola and a great sew/quilting shop, A & E Fabric store, actually inside a drug store, but has the largest selection of quilting fabrics I have seen in this area...Mary Jo's would be the next closes I know of...
Had to pick up on a few Christmas fabrics for a Vida dress doing for DGD.

Then ran across a couple of "filler" fabrics for maybe another Vida dress if I don't change my mind..Will post later.

Feliz Sew A Long

It's a "party" dress...that is a "feliz". A sewing forum is hosting a "feliz sew a long" and I am having so much fun now that I have finally picked out my fabrics and got them cut out...here are some sneak peaks...haven't gotten it sewn together yet....what looks like may be sewn is just pinned for the time being until DGD gets to try on and adjust the ruffles and shoulder straps..

Too much sun light in the second picture......truer colors in the bottom pic.

Hope to soon have finished for the weekend!

GPS....

Well if we are going to start traveling one of these days, I needed to get our GPS device to use. Trouble is it wouldn't stay on the dash, so instead of buying one of those holders I decided to make one, seeing I have a closet full of fabric and surely I can find something to stuff it with...and I did find some florist "mung beans" to use. I thought about using rice and then found the beans..I can eat the rice, but not these beans..(for decorating use only)!

So here it is in use and it turned out pretty good for just usings scraps from around the house.

Now to the next project to get us going...still working on the truck camper..must make some curtains next!

36th Anniversary

Spent last evening listing the rest of my tableclothes on Etsy. I love selling on Etsy, but it does
take some work. It is so nice to sell something.

Today is my DH and mine's 36th anniversary...so hard to believe it has been that long....boy time flies...we are celebrating by going to lunch and a movie. The movie is something we don't do very often. We say we are going to go for an "outing", which means a movie and a meal, but some how we just end up staying at home..which isn't a bad thing either...guess we are just not as into it "movie going" as we use to be. I kind of like staying in and watching a movie at home...cheaper and no body around to be loud or bother you!

Home Going

Just back from an emotional week. Last Friday we buried our aunt who we have been taking care of for about a year now. Uncle passed away in March and now she has gone to be with him!

It was hard to say goodbye...but at the same time she was so wanting to "go home".

She will be missed and since there were no children, as someone said at the funeral,"it seems like an era has passed". Virginia was a remarkable person, Navy veteran, Auburn graduate, and retired from the Dept of Treasury! She love genealogy and did a lot of work tracing her family roots and helped others do the same.

What have I been up to??????

Ok, so I haven't been blogging much lately....but I have been busy! First, it is the garden, tomatoes, peas, okra, peppers, etc......we have been picking and canning and freezing. The blackberries and blueberries have all been picked or eaten :) and then there were the tomatoes. I love tomatoes, but I am tired of canning them....I know they will be good this winter when I want to make soup or sauces. And then there are the peas.....we really haven't had alot of peas this year ?? the bugs have gotten to them too fast, but did put some in the freezer. They will be great to have when it gets cold. Nothing like a pot of zipper peas with chowchow on top and a nice thick wedge of cornbread, oh with butter....hmmmm. Now the figs are coming on and I really want to put up some fig preserves this year. We have not had figs in a while. Years ago I use to make "strawberry" fig preserves and that was the only way I would eat them, but my taste have changed with age and I love good old fashion fig preserves and so does my DH. So we will see how that goes.

And then there is the cleaning out of my sewing/crafting room....I really need to downsize and I am trying to get some destashing done to put on Etsy,,,,,(to come soon). I guess going to all those yard sales and thrify stores over the many years have built up to OMGoodness! What am I doing with all this STUFF!? I hope to put much on Etsy to sell.

I have been selling a few things and hope to continue.....it is a learning process, especially about postage...I try to stay close to the actual cost of shipping but sometimes I don't charge enough for shipping and I eat that cost. It is fun to learn I have made a sale! yippeee!
Saving up for a new laptop to use with my sewing machine...one day!

And then I have been quilting, smocking and sewing a bit....working on sewing for grandchildren and doing a little mending......

One little dress I made for my DGD, much more sewing to do.
Better get back to that cleaning out! Later....

Trip to the ER

Today started out fairly normal....then the call came, a close aunt was rushed to the ER because of a fall from out of her wheelchair. She has a deep cut on her forehead and other cuts and bruises. So off I go. She lives in an assisted living home about 30 miles from us and since she has no children and our uncle (her husband) has passed on and she is 92 years old, my husband and I take responsiblity for her. She is a sweetheart and is always pleasant. In fact the whole time I was with her in the ER waiting for them to stitch her up, she never complained. She ended up with about 10 stitched to the forehead.

She has led a remarkable life. In about 1943 she was a U.S. Naval Reserves WAVES and served during WWII. She also worked for the ATF division of the US Treasury Dept. She has always been a very industrious person and a gracious southern lady. Here is a pic of her from her Navy days.

We made it back to the Assisted living home and she quietly told me she was going to take a nap.

Veggies Yum!

The vegetables are really starting to come in from the garden.

So have to get busy cooking and freezing.

Here I've mad some stuffed zucchini and they were soooo good.

I have been attached by allergies this week, so it has been slow moving.

But getting better now and getting busy again....

So much to do....

Robertsdale Quilt Show 09

A few quilts from the Robertsdale Quilt Show in 2009 sponsored by the First Methodist Church of Robertsdale

Country Bumpkin & Inspirations - beautiful embroidery & smocking

Country Bumpkin & Inspirations - beautiful embroidery & smocking

Love their designs and inspirations for sewing!

From Easter

Madeleine loves to twirl!

This is Maddie in her Easter dress from this year.

A white bishop with ecru smocking.
I loved making it for her.

She loves to dance and sing.

She is two and a half in this picture, but at the age

of one year and three months, she was

diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

She has had some ups and downs, but over all

she is a very active little girl.

We praise God for all His blessings.

More on our grandsons later!

his love endures forever."

For starters...

Ok this is my first post and I am new at this, so please be patient.
I have so much to share, just where to get started?
Since it is midnight at my house, this will be a brief post.
I am retired, home with my DH. We live on about two acres, in which he does
most of the work.
I pretty much work inside, sewing, knitting, quilting and keeping up with
the most precious grandchildren.
So that is enough to get started....more to come.
I hope that I can keep this up.
